From 03 to 07 November 2008, in Hoi An, Quang Nam province, the NOIP hosted to organize the 30^th ASEAN Working Group on Intellectual Property Cooperation (AWGIPC) and Head meeting of ASEAN’s IP offices. The meeting was attended by representatives from Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Viet Nam and ASEAN Secretariat. The Vietnamese delegation was headed by NOIP’s Director General Tran Viet Hung.  

At the head meeting, directions for ASEAN’s common policy on cooperation in the field of intellectual property were discussed and agreed, which constituted basis for AWGIPC’s activities.  

The 30^th AWGIPC meeting discussed and agreed about concrete measures and plans to implement cooperative activities in the field of intellectual property on the basis of the results of the head meeting of ASEAN’s IP office, specifically: (i) Relations between dispute settlement mechanism according to the ASEAN Charter and ASEAN Protocol 2004 on dispute settlement mechanism (ASEAN Protocol), and Agreement on Cooperation in the field of intellectual property in ASEAN; (ii) Activities to implement ASEAN’s comprehensive plan and ASEAN action plan 2004 - 2010 (IP section) and 2008-2009; (iii) ASEAN’s opinions in negotiations for FTAs with its partners, including FTAs between ASEAN and EC; (iv) Cooperation Plan between ASEAN and its partners such as China, European Community, USA, WIPO, Japan, Australia…; (v) Establishment of ASEAN’s common filing system for industrial design; (vi) Establishment of ASEAN’s cooperation mechanism on patent search and examination; (vii) Participating international agreement on IP; … 

The meetings took place in an open, cooperative, friendly atmosphere and were successful. International delegations sincerely sent their thanks to the respectful reception, hospitality and thorough and professional organization of Viet Nam.
