A “National Workshop onIntellectual Property Management for SMEs” was organized by the NationalOffice of Intellectual Property of Vietnam (NOIP), in cooperation with theWorld Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and Korean IntellectualProperty Office (KIPO), on 22 and 23 March 2010 in Hanoi, Viet Nam. The Workshop was participated by representatives of over 30 SMEs and NOIP’s staff.  

At the opening speech, NOIP’s Deputy Director General Pham Phi Anhemphasized on the role of intellectual property (IP) in the economic growth ingeneral and in business activities in particular. Dr. Pham recommendedVietnamese SMEs to make use of its available intellectual resources to enhance itscompetitiveness and international economic integration.    

During the two-day workshop, speakers from WIPO,KIPO and Indiaintroduced their policies and services to SMEs; shared experiences of their SMEsin using intellectual property assets to enhance competitiveness and development.On Vietnamside, the representative of NOIP gave a presentation on its IP policies andservices for SMEs, especially focused on the National Program of SupportingDevelopment of Enterprises' IP Assets which was implemented in accordance withthe Decision No. 68/2005/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister. 

 The Workshop was followed by intensive consultations to 6 Vietnamese SMEs onmanagement, utilization and exploitation of IP assets in their businesses, and a study-visit for Vietnamese SMEs to Korea.
