President Nguyễn Minh Triết receives Dr. Francis Gurry,WIPO Director General
President Triet received Dr. Francis Gurry, Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) at the premise of Presidential Palace on 20 January.
The President confirmed Vietnam’s commitment to intellectual property (IP) protection, saying the country has issued IP-related legal documents and established IP offices. However, he said that since the legal system was not fully completed, the IP working staff has been not well trained leading to difficulties in enforcement of IP rights. Therefore, Vietnam still needs assistance from the WIPO to better this job.
Director General Gurry praised Vietnam for its efforts to implement international treaties on IP rights and said that Viet Nam is an exemplary model in protection of IP rights and in cooperation with WIPO. Dr. Francis Gurry stressed that Viet Nam’s determination and commitment will help to promote its image and products abroad. He added that WIPO is willing to provide more assistance to Viet Nam,with priority being given to training IP officials.
