THE THIRTY-FOURTH MEETING OF THE ASEAN WORKING GROUP ON INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY COOPERATION

National Office of Intellectual Property of Viet Nam (NOIP) hosted the 34th Meeting of the ASEAN Working Group on Intellectual Property Cooperation (AWGIPC 34) in Da Nang from 11 to 15 October 2010.  30 participants from ASEAN Secretariat and Intellectual Property Offices of ASEAN member states (AMSs) attended the Meeting.

The Viet Nam’s Delegation, comprising representatives from NOIP and the Copyright Office was led by the NOIP’s Director General Tran Viet Hung.

The Meeting was opened by Mr. Ricardo Bancaflor, Director-General, Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines. In the capacity of the host, Director General Tran Viet Hung delivered an opening speech which emphasized AWGIPC’s role and contributions to ASEAN cooperation in IP field in recent years. He believed that the cooperation between AMSs on IP would be developed continuously in order to implement goals and objectives under the ASEAN 2011-2015 Action Plan on IP toward achieving the goals of ASEAN Economic Community.

The Meeting focused on several issues, such as: (i) reviewing, assessing results of cooperation activities towards achieving ASEAN’s objectives on IP; (ii) discussing and finalizing an ASEAN 2011-2015 Action Plan on IP; (iii) meeting with various ASEAN dialogue partners on IP, namely the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the United States and Japan.

On the margin of the AWGIPC 34, the Vietnam’s Delegation had bilateral meetings with delegations from some AMSs and WIPO with a view to enhancing bilateral cooperation with these partners.

The International Cooperation Division, NOIP
