Permanent Deputy PM of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam, H.E. Nguyễn Sinh Hùng received Dr. Francis Gurry, Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in Ha Noi on 19 January 2010.

Permanent Deputy PM of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam, H.E. Nguyễn Sinh Hùng received Dr. Francis Gurry, Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in Ha Noi on 19 January 2010. During the meeting,Dr. Francis Gurry said Viet Nam had a right assessment of IP’s important role and achieved great achievements in IP protection. He also highly appreciated the cooperation between Viet Nam and WIPO,and emphasized that IP had made a significant contribution to the country’s socio-economic development over the past years.
Dr. Gurry predicted that Viet Nam will see an IP boom thanks to local demand and foreign investment. So it is necessary for Viet Nam’s IP-related agencies to improve their capacity.
Deputy PM thanked WIPO for its cooperation and assistance for Viet Nam and stated that Viet Nam was attaching importance to IP rights protection and considered it as an important issue in national socio-economic, scientific and technological development strategies.
According to the Deputy PM,Viet Nam has been actively acceding to various international treaties and regional agreements on IP rights protection. In consensus with Dr. Gurry on IP development trend in Viet Nam in the future,Deputy PM expressed his wish that WIPO continues help Viet Nam in IP field,especially in making IP policies and laws,enforcing related institutions, building human resources and improving public awareness on IP.
