On 04 August 2014 in Ha Noi , the National Office of Intellectual Property of Viet Nam (under the Ministry of Science and Technology) in cooperation with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the Departments of Science and Technology of Ha Noi, Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City and the Intellectual Property and Creativity Journal organized the Launching Ceremony for the Appropriate Technology Competition 2014 in Viet Nam.
The Launching was attended by leaders of subordinate Departments of the Ministry of Science and Technology, representatives of Departments of Science and Technology of Ha Noi and neighboring provinces, enterprises, institutions, universities and individual inventors. The Ceremony was also welcomed the presence of Mr. Tran Van Tung, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology - Head of the Organizing Committee of the AT Competition 2014.
It is the second AT Competition organized in Viet Nam that aims to encouraging and rewarding excellent inventions and innovations which are easily and economically utilized from readily available resources by local communities to meet their needs and to create sustainable development of local communities, as well as the socio-economic development of the country.
Unlike the first Competition in 2013, this year, the AT Competition is being organized at the national wide. Any Vietnamese who are living and working in Viet Nam and having technical solutions which were created or utilized from December 31st 2008 onwards and not yet participated in the Competition 2013 are eligible for the Competition.
At the opening ceremony, Deputy Minister Tran Van Tung highlighted the success of the Competition in 2013 as a encouraging signal for the country’s technologies as a result of sound guidance and policies of the Party and the State, as well as showing the creative potential of Vietnamese people. He expressed the hope that the AT Competition 2014 would attract a large number of organizations and individuals in which they may show their innovation and creativity and connect their business opportunities to potential investors.
Rewards of the Competition will include 01 the first prize of VND $100 million, 01 the second prize of VND $50 million, 01 the third prize of VND $30 million and 12 honoredprizes of VND $10 million. In addition, the winners will be awarded medals and certificates of WIPO. The "Innovative Enterprises" will be also rewarded to selected enterprises and institutions.
The time period for filing submissions will be from July 30th 2014 to September 30th 2014. Further information about the Competition may be found on the website of the Ministry of Science and Technology (www.most.gov.vn), the National Office of Intellectual Property (www.noip.gov.vn) and the local Departments of Science and Technology.
The Final Round and the Awarding Ceremony of the Competition are scheduled to be held in the end of November 2014./.
